ELGIN – Approximately 900 to 1000 bags of candy were delivered to homes in Elgin last year during Operation Santa Clause.ย ย The tradition will continue this year on Christmas Eve, however, due to COVID, there will be some changes.ย ย In the past, Santa engaged with the residents of Elgin, and photos were taken, however, this year that will not take place.ย ย Fire Chief Kevin Silvernail said to have your porch light on if you want Santa to stop.ย
We will be running with a limited group of volunteers this year. Please be patient and be home! We will not be able to go back to your house if you weren’t home when we came by the 1st time. We will be starting between 4:45 and 5 pm just like each year.
1-We will not be going into homes this year.
2-If you don’t have your porch light on or house lights on we will not stop at your house.
3-We will be keeping Social Distancing requirements, which mean pictures too. We will not have time to do pictures this year. We truly apologize.
4-We cannot do any special requests this year.
5-Everyone will be in proper PPE Santa and helpers.
We want to keep this tradition alive while keeping everyone safe.
This program is sponsored through a wood raffle that is held each year, which supports Operation Santa Claus. Tickets for the Wood Raffle can be purchased from any Elgin Firefighter. The drawing will be held in February.
