WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office reports one person was killed Friday at about 8 a.m. following a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Wallula Road and Evans Road in Walla Walla.

Marco Antonio Estrada Garcia, 30, of Walla Walla was traveling at an excessive speed eastbound on Wallula Road in a Chevy SUV when he collided with a Toyota Prius driven by Martin William Scott, 73, of College Place that was entering Wallula Road from Evans Road, according to Walla Walla County Undersheriff Joe Klundt.

Estrada Garcia was transported to Providence St. Mary Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. On Saturday, he was booked into the Walla Walla County Jail on charges of vehicular homicide and operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock.

Scott was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Washington State Patrol is assisting the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.

Late Friday, Scott’s employer, Walla Walla University (WWU), issued the following statement:

Scott graduated from Walla Walla University in 1974, and served as an instructor in our School of Education and Psychology for one year in 1976. He returned to our employee family in 1992 and served as a part-time contract instructor every year since, teaching classes ranging from astronomy to personal computing and programming, software applications, web security, and all levels of woodworking. Most recently in spring 2022 he taught conceptual physics and physical science on our College Place campus.

“The university appreciates Scott’s 30 years of dedication to students,” WWU Marketing and University Relations Director Aaron Nakumura said. “He will be deeply missed, and our deepest thoughts and sincerest prayers are with his family.”
