WALLA WALLA – One person was transported to Providence St. Mary Medical Center for evaluation of injuries relating to a fire that occurred Wednesday morning in Walla Walla.
The Walla Walla Fire Department was dispatched to a single-story residence on the 300 block of Grape Street shortly after 6 a.m.
While firefighters were en route, dispatch advised that all occupants were out of the home. As firefighters arrived on scene, they found visible flames coming from the front of the residence.
This accidental fire was caused by an overload on an electrical extension cord. Damage to the property and contents is estimated at $97,500.
Walla Walla County Fire District No. 4 was dispatched to assist as part of a mutual-aid agreement. There were no injuries to firefighters.
There were no working smoke alarms installed in this residence. Firefighters reminds everyone that working smoke alarms save lives, and emphasizes the importance of checking to ensure your smoke alarms are in working condition.
