JOHN DAY – (Press release from Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley)
On Sunday night, November 6th, Grant County Deputy Thomas Houpt responded to multi vehicle crash on South Canyon Boulevard in John Day.
Initial investigation found that Cindy Chappel, 42, of John Day, had been south bound in a 1985 Chevrolet pickup, and struck a parked 2017 Dodge pickup. The Dodge pickup was pushed forward from the force of the collision, and then struck a parked 2018 Audi, and the Audi struck a parked 1952 Chrysler.
All the parked vehicles belonged to the same owners and were unoccupied at the time. The Dodge pickup and Audi suffered significant damages.
Chappel was taken into custody at the scene under suspicion of Driving While under the Influence, and transported to the Grant County Jail.
The vehicle Chappel was operating suffered significant frontal damage and was removed from the scene by Frontier Towing of Mt. Vernon.
Highway 395 was closed for a short time near 1230 am, between Third and Fourth street as the accident was cleared up.
No injuries were reported.
