UNION COUNTY – At around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, the Oregon State Police responded to a disturbance a along I-84 near milepost 279 Westbound, north of North Powder. On scene, it was determined that the passenger of a westbound Nissan Rogue grabbed and jerked the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to go into the median, though a crash was thankfully avoided by the driver. The passenger was subsequently arrested on multiple charges.
A full summary of the arrest, as provided by OSP in a recent press log, is as follows:
“Troopers responded to a 911 open line where a disturbance was heard in the background. Troopers arrived on scene and learned an adult male passenger grabbed the steering wheel of the vehicle and jerked it while his girlfriend drove down the freeway, causing the vehicle to leave the freeway into the median. The female driver was able to correct the vehicle and stopped to call 911.
The male was subsequently taken into custody for DUII, Recklessly Endangering Another Person and Reckless Driving. A warrant was obtained for his blood which was seized. The male was then lodged at the Union County Jail for the listed crimes.”
The passenger was subsequently identified as 27-year-old Mitchell Wade Stuart of Painesville Ohio.
