PASCO – The Pasco Police Department reports an officer was shot Friday morning after responding at 5:49 a.m. to a report of a reckless driver. The suspect vehicle was located at Circle K on the corner of Road 32 and Court Street.
The officer was shot as he approached the vehicle to attempt contact. The officer radioed “shots fired” and 911 dispatch began receiving calls that the officer had been shot and the suspect vehicle fled the Circle K.
Regional law enforcement was notified and responded to assist. The suspect vehicle was located, and a pursuit began when the vehicle refused to stop. Responding officers reported that shots had been fired as the pursuit approached the area of Road 64 and West Argent Road.
At the end of the pursuit, a deputy with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office was involved in shooting the suspect. The male suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local area hospital to receive medical treatment.
As for the Pasco police officer, the department said he is receiving medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.
The Pasco Police Department said it does not believe there are any outstanding suspects or specific threats to the community related to this event.
The Special Investigations Unit has taken over this investigation.
