PASCO — The Pasco Police Department has released details regarding an officer involved shooting that happened Sunday. At about 11:40 a.m., officers were dispatched to a physical altercation between two males in the street near Sixth Avenue and West Lewis Street. Dispatch reported one of the males was armed with a knife.
When officers arrived on the scene, a male was found lying on the ground with apparent stab wounds. An officer rendered medical aid to the injured male, who later died at the scene due to his injuries.
Two additional officers contacted the male who was armed with the knife. The male charged at the officers who attempted de-escalation tactics. Despite efforts to de-escalate, the male continued to advance toward the officers. Officers shot at the male, striking him with gunfire, stopping his aggression, according to the Pasco Police Department.
Officers immediately rendered medical aid. The male who was shot was transported to a regional hospital by ambulance.
Once the scene was secure, the Pasco Police Department contacted the region’s Special Investigations Unit to investigate this use of force incident independent of the Pasco Police Department.
