UMATILLA COUNTY – The Umatilla County Office of Emergency Management will be getting two new snow machines. Emergency Manager Tom Roberts said the new Ski-Doo Summit Edges will benefit more than just infrastructure inspections and snow patrols by the sheriff’s office.

“The machines that snow patrol has right now are going to be moved down to search and rescue units to replace even older machines,” he said. “Everybody wins.”

When the county applied for the grant, it was for enough money to cover the two snow machines. However, prices have gone up, leaving a balance of $4,030 to cover the purchase price. The county approved that payment.

Roberts said because the machines are smaller, they will be able to access areas the larger machines owned by the county cannot. The total price for two Ski-Doo Summit Edge 165 850 E-Tech snow machines is $31,448.
