NORTHEAST OREGON – (Information from ODOT) With Super Bowl LVIII less than a week away, football fans across Oregon are gearing up for the biggest sporting and television event of the year. Sports parties, however, mean drinking, and drinking unfortunately means drunk driving. In anticipation of Super Bowl Sunday, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) are reminding everyone to avoid drinking and driving and to make preparations to get home safely once the game concludes.

If hosting a watch party with alcohol involved, remember to name a designated driver in advance. At the very least, have someone on call that can give rides if needed, or prepare to call a ride share service to get guests home. In addition, having non-alcoholic drinks on hand for designated drivers and other guests can limit the risk of impaired driving.

Above all, don’t let guests drive drunk, no matter how inconvenient an alternative may seem at the time. Make plans in advance to ensure everyone has a safe ride home. The extra traffic from fellow football fans also heading home can make an already dangerous situation into a catastrophic one. As best put by ODOT: “Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk.”
