PENDLETON – Motorists are complaining about traffic signal maintenance that has altered the flow of things on Court and Dorion avenues. Pendleton Public Works Director Bob Patterson says that with the exception of the signal on Southwest Court Avenue and Southwest 20th Street, which the city owns and contracts with ODOT for maintenance, all the signals are part of a test the Oregon Department of Transportation is running in order to determine if traffic flows warrant them.

“They want to know if signals and replacement of signals meet the warrants by the amount of traffic that goes through that intersection to be replaced,” he said.

He says ODOT is currently looking at the older, span wire signals and will save the bigger signals on Main Street for last. Right now the state agency is focused on Southwest First and Court and Southwest 10th and Dorion. Patterson said because there is a change, motorists are confused and some on Court and Dorion come to a stop to figure out what they should do. He said both Court and Dorion are through streets and cars who stop on them are actually blocking traffic.

ODOT has not informed Patterson about how long the tests will take.
