HERMISTON – Hermiston Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan said city crews have been working to help the Oregon Department of Transportation get ready for a major project on U.S. 395.
“I know we’ve been moving a lot of utilities to get ready for that project,” Morgan said. “They’ve asked us to be able to do work at night inside the city to minimize traffic impacts.”
Morgan said the project begins just east of Southeast Fourth Street and continues all the way through Stanfield. It’s just not repaving. All of the ADA ramps will be upgraded. In addition, Highway 395 in Stanfield will be put on what ODOT calls a ‘road diet.’ That means it’s reducing the number of travel lanes.
“They’re basically reducing the capacity for vehicles going through Stanfield,” Morgan said.
ODOT said the ‘road diet’ is to allow for the addition of bicycle lanes or on-street parking. The project will not be finished until the end of October.
