ODFW Report five confirmed wolf depredations in Baker and Wallowa Counties

BAKER & WALLOWA COUNTIES – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has released information on confirmed and probable wolf depredations for February 2026. In total, five depredations were confirmed between Baker and Wallowa Counties last month, resulting in five dead and five injured animals. 

The first depredation was initially investigated on February 1 and occurred on a 20-acre private land pasture in the Crow Creek area of Wallowa County, resulting in a single dead adult sheep. The depredation is estimated to have occurred around 12 hours prior to investigation with a currently unknown group of wolves being confirmed responsible.

The second depredation was initially investigated on February 3 and occurred on 100-acre private land pasture in the Keating area of Baker County, resulting in a single dead yearling cow. The depredation is estimated to have occurred around 60 hours prior to investigation, with the Black Pines Pack being confirmed responsible.

The third depredation was initially investigated on February 4 and occurred on a private land pasture in the Grouse Flats area of Wallowa County (size unlisted), resulting in one dead yearling cow. The depredation is estimated to have occurred less than 12 hours prior to investigation, with the Grouse Flats Pack being confirmed responsible. 

The fourth depredation was initially investigated on on February 12 and occurred on a 14-acre private land pasture in the Paradise area of Wallowa County, resulting in a single dead 9-month-old calf. The depredation is estimated to have occurred less than 12 hours prior to investigation, with the Grouse Flats Pack again being confirmed responsible.

The fifth and final depredation confirmed for February was initially investigated on February 16 and occurred on 20-acre private land pasture in Crow Creek area of Wallowa County, resulting in one dead and five injured adult sheep. The depredation is estimated to have occurred less than 12 hours prior to investigation, with a currently unknown group of wolves being confirmed responsible.
