SALEM – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has issued a lethal removal permit for the Five Points Wolf Pack which has confirmed depredations in Umatilla and Union counties.

Two producers who have been impacted by the pack requested the permit after three depredation events in the past eight months. Two of those acts occurred over the last two weeks. Each producer is receiving a permit which allows them or their agents to kill up to four wolves total on leased private land and the adjacent forest service allotment.

ODFW reports that the producers have been using range riders daily and will continue to use appropriate non-lethal measures. The permit is valid until Oct. 31 in pastures where cattle are present or until four wolves form the pack have been killed. The producers have to communicate with each other as well as with ODFW if they take a wolf.

According to the winter count, the Five Points Wolf Pack had 12 members and pups were born to the pack in April.
