Celebrating Life
Stan McKay, 80, of John Day died July 30th , 2024. A celebration of life will be held Saturday,
October 12th , 1pm at the John Day Elks Lodge 1824. Stan McKay owned and operated Stan
McKay Excavation and had worked for the John Day Public Works Department. He is
remembered for his love of carpentry even building a cabin on Unity Reservoir using his own
portable sawmill, hunting, fishing, camping and running his string of pack mules. McKay is
survived by his wife Nancy Walter, a daughter Nancy Cruze of Amboy WA, a sister Louise, two
granddaughters and three great grandchildren.
