Janice Elaine Cleaver, 87, of La Grande, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2023 at Grande Ronde Hospital. At her request, there will be no service.

Janice was born on June 19, 1936 in La Grande, Oregon to Charles and Leitha (Watson) Cleaver. She resided in Imbler, OR; Pendleton, OR and La Grande, OR. She attended Imbler Elementary and graduated from Imbler High School. She was married to Leonard Brookshier. After that marriage ended, she married Charles Brown.

Janice owned and operated Pendleton Rental with Charles. She was also a CNA for Valley View Nursing Home and St. Joseph Hospital. She enjoyed hunting on Mt. Harris, fishing, oil painting, sarhiko, and embroidering. She also enjoyed trips to the coast with Joyce and Monte and enjoyed the beach. She especially loved her cats, Fluffy and Butterscotch. She was a character and will be dearly missed.

Our family would like to extend a โ€œhuge Thank Youโ€ to Grande Ronde Hospital. All the ER and 2nd Floor Med/Surge doctors and nurses for their outstanding care. We would also like to say a โ€œgreat Thank Youโ€ to all staff, nurses and community for their superb and extra care of Janice and making her last few months comfortable. We so appreciate you all.

Janice is survived by her children, Joy Cleaver of La Grande, OR, Debbie Kerby of Pendleton, OR and Boyd Brookshier of Orofino, ID; sister, Marie Lester of La Grande; 1 grandchild, Sara Brookshier and many nieces and nephews. She also considered Joyce and Monte Grove as her family and her neighbor, Paul Stevens, her โ€œlittleโ€ brother. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Cleaver; mother Leitha Hoover; step-father, Bus Hoover and brother, Wilfred Cleaver.
