Celebrating Life
And God said – “Welcome Home thou Good and Faithful Servant.” Harland H. “Doc” Bryant left this earthly world on Sunday, March 17, 2024, to join his wife Lois at the feet of Jesus. Doc was born on September 3, 1924, in South Bend, Indiana, to Clarence and Florence Bryant. He married his high school sweetheart, Lois Bunch, on Valentine’s Day in 1944. He served in the Navy during WWII and was a proud veteran. Together, he and Lois raised four children and then had the honor of adopting and raising one of their grandsons. In the mid-fifties, Doc was called into God’s ministry and, over the next 60 years, pastored numerous churches in Missouri and Southern California. He always managed to get in a game of golf at least once a week. Doc was a graduate of Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO, and obtained a Doctorate of Theology. He also conducted “The God of Ages and the Ages of God” seminars on the Book of Revelation. Doc retired in his late 80s, and he and Lois moved to Baker City in 2015. In his later years, Doc still enjoyed a good game of golf, even some not-so-good ones. He discovered the senior center in Baker City had a pool table, and he spent most of his weekday mornings there. He delighted in greeting his fellow members and guests each Sunday morning at Blue Mountain Baptist Church. He also ministered to his fellow residents at Meadowbrook Place, where he lived until his passing. He served his God first, loved his wife of almost 74 years beyond measure, and treasured his children. He was a friend to everyone he met and never knew a stranger. Doc was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, and his wife. He is survived by his sister Anita, son Daniel, daughter Janet Bushong (Jim), son Clayton (Pam), daughter Beth Goodman (Chuck), son Adam, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and numerous friends. He was loved by many and will be missed. He will be laid to rest at Mt Hope Cemetery in Baker City, OR. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the Community Connections Senior Center, 2810 Cedar St., at 11:30 am with military honors at 1 pm. Anyone wishing to donate in his memory to the charity of their choice may do so through Gray’s West & Co Pioneer Chapel at 1500 Dewey Ave, Baker City, Oregon 97814.
