Georgie Mae (Eckley) Waits, of La Grande, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at the age of 81. A Graveside service will be held at Enterprise Cemetery on Friday, November 24, 2023 at 2:00pm. Casual dress is preferred by the family.

Georgie was born on October 23, 1942 in Joseph, Oregon to Benjamin and Alma (Rudger) Eckley. She was married to Cecil “Pete” Waits, Jr.

Georgie worked as a florist and in retail. Being a florist was a great passion for her until her hands could not continue to do the work. She often made flower arrangements and gifts for people to brighten up their days. During the time she was married to Pete, they traveled to many places. Georgie made many friends along the way and learned history, culture and gleaned her many techniques for her arts and crafts. Georgie enjoyed people and being outdoors, which would include fishing or taking pictures. She wrote poetry and really enjoyed making things with her hands whether it be sewing, painting, making jewelry or dreamcatchers. She had a knack for learning many arts and enjoyed making Jams and Jellies as well. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many people. She touched a lot of lives.

Georgie is survived by her son, Phillip Waits and his spouse, Donna, and two grandchildren, Bobby and Desiree; sister, Mary Howerton and other family members. She is preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Alma Eckley; brothers, Benjamin “Ben” Eckley, Jr., and Francis “Frank” Eckley; sisters, Maxine Dagget and LaValle “Dolly” Roberts and former spouse, Cecil “Pete” Waits, Jr. She will be missed by many.
