Celebrating Life
June 20th, 1993 marked the beginning of the adventurous life of Dustin (Chin) Wayne Hull of Baker City. Chin’s father, Nathan Hull, knew right from the beginning that this world would be better for it. Chin attended elementary school at North Baker, Baker Middle School and Baker High School…graduating in 2011.
Chin grew up watching his dad play softball…and they spent hours upon hours playing catch and baseball quickly became a major love of his. From tee ball, minors, majors, Babe Ruth, High school, Legion and All Stars—baseball was a passion of Chin’s. Nathan would take Chin in the woods hunting, fishing and camping. Gathering firewood wasn’t a favorite pastime of either Chin or Shannon’s…but Chin’s love of the forest quickly set his future in motion. He was successful this last fall in getting his first elk.
In 2010 as a junior in high school, Chin started working for Lane Parry Forestry Consulting and caught the passion for all things logging. Nearly 9 years later, armed with the knowledge and skills he learned of thinning trees while working with Lane Parry, he then began working for Riley Timber Falling. Rich Riley mentored Chin to define his skill as a faller. Armed with even greater skill, Chin started his own company, Hull Timber Falling, three years ago.
Being the people person Chin was, there wasn’t a stranger that didn’t become his friend. Everyone loved his smile, his witty laugh, sense of humor and his crazy antics. Spending any time with Chin meant a lifelong friend, parties galore, pranks and he was always clowning around. He was a giver and would do anything for anybody…right down to that big ‘ol bear hug that people remember him for. Anytime he was around children, they clung, played and looked up to him.
Family meant everything to Chin. He was at every family event or gathering and he loved just being there. His friends too, were his chosen family–there wasn’t a place on earth he went that he didn’t get to know someone and stay in touch to this day. The memories and stories are endless.
On January 3rd, 2025, the world lost Chin and all the amazing sides of him we all knew and loved. His parents, Nathan (Colleen) Hull and Eleanor (Tim) Myers, his sister Shannon (Jesse) Freeman & niece Jaklyn, his stepsister Kristina Huskey, Grandmother Cherylee Hull Castillo and countless aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends say goodbye to an incredible human and are extremely grateful for the 31 years we all had together.
There will be a celebration of Chin’s life at the Baker County Events Center on January 18th, 2025, at 3pm. Knowing his passion for baseball, anyone inclined to volunteer or support Baker Little League can do so at PO Box 505, Baker City, Oregon. bakercitylittleleague@gmail.com, or call Shelly Cutler at 541-216-0907.
