Celebrating Life

Dale Basso, longtime resident and owner of Globe Furniture in La Grande, passed away at home at the age of 72. Dale was born in Aberdeen, Washington on June 29, 1953, to Henry and Jacquelyn Basso. He grew up in Hoquiam and was the middle child and only son.

Dale graduated with honors from Hoquiam High School in 1971. He was tabbed for all-around personality and served as an ASB Officer and Delegate at the State YMCA Conferences. He was a member of the Honor Society, served as Co-Captain on the golf team, and was active on the yearbook staff.

Dale graduated Summa Cum Laude from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in 1975. He went on to acquire his Master’s Degree from the University Of Washington in Business Administration in 1976.

After graduation, Dale immediately went to work for the Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan in their Pricing and Marketing Analysis Department for the Lincoln – Mercury Division. He was involved in expanding their Latin American Automotive Operations there.

Understanding that his parents, Henry and Jackie, were wanting to retire and deciding that he would rather work for himself instead of someone else, he decided to move to La Grande in 1982 and help his parents retire from Globe Furniture.

Dale married Rhonda Sue Marsh January 9, 1993 and together, they welcomed two children, Caroline and Loren. Dale was a dedicated husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and community member.

Dale is survived by his wife, Rhonda, daughter, Caroline and son, Loren, his two sisters, Gail Girtz and Julie Howard, brothers-in-law, Rich and Greg, nephews Brad Girtz and Calvin Howard, and their spouses, Virginia and Josiana, niece Nicole Grimm, and her husband Cody, and their two children, Crosby and Palmer, and numerous Basso cousins. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Jackie and Henry Basso.

If you would like to honor Dale, go out into your local community and do something to improve it and help others. Help make the lives of others around you better. Serve on a board, committee, or foundation. Give funds to a cause near and dear to your heart. Help children, elders, animals, anyone or anything that is in need. He would have liked that. We hope you will think of Dale and smile.
