Celebrating Life
Bonnie Marie Roberts, 81, of Walla Walla, Washington, and previously of Pendleton and La Grande, Oregon, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Saint Mary’s Medical Center in Walla Walla. A celebration of life will be held on November 25, 2023, at 1 PM at the Calvary Chapel Church, 2139 Fern Avenue, Walla Walla, WA 99362. Casual dress is suggested, and a potluck meal will follow the service.
Bonnie was born on September 16, 1942, in Pendleton, Oregon, to Bernard and Winifred “Winnie” (Morse) Olsen. She graduated from Pendleton High School and married her high school sweetheart, Lyle James Roberts. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and never met a person she didn’t unconditionally love, respect, and accept. She simply and genuinely cared deeply for everyone around her.
Bonnie’s care of others was proven by how she spent her life. After high school, Bonnie graduated from Beauty School and cut hair for family and friends. She was a dedicated homemaker, raising five children and providing daycare for countless children in La Grande. She made many spectacular and memorable wedding cakes. She taught swimming for the La Grande Swim Club for many years. She was the PTA President, an election official, a scout leader, a Rainbow Mom, and a member of Eastern Star. Bonnie was a talented seamstress. She was a Sunday school teacher and a dedicated believer of Christ, often posting moving testimonies openly exhibiting her faith in Jesus. Her efforts were unceasingly poured out for the benefit of others, primarily for her children. If her kids were interested, she gave everything she had to support their interests. She was a perfect example of what a mom should be, what a wife should be, and what a Christian should be.
Bonnie is survived by her children; Tim Roberts (Sunny) of Hermiston, John Roberts of Walla Walla, Jeff Roberts (Julie) and Jess Roberts (Sheryln) of La Grande, and Angella Shane (Troy) of Walla Walla; sister Terrie Lapp (Tom) of Pendleton; sister-in-law Joyce Olsen of Elgin; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, her parents, her brothers, Ron and Rodney Dee Olsen, and sister, Billie Jean Olsen. Obituary courtesy of Loveland Funeral Chapel.
