Celebrating Life

Adam Dell Schumacher, 82, of John Day, Oregon, passed away on October 30, 2023, at the Blue Mountain Hospital in John Day, Oregon. A memorial service will be held at a later date, and details will be announced when confirmed.

Born on July 13, 1941, in Los Angeles, California, Adam was the beloved son of Thelma (Sims) Schumacher and Rueben Schumacher. He led a remarkable life filled with dedication, service, and love.

Adam proudly served his country as a sergeant in the United States Marines from 1961 to 1967. His commitment to duty and honor during his military service left an indelible mark on his character.

After his time in the Marines, Adam embarked on a thirty-year career with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, where he served as a Program Manager. He brought his passion for the outdoors to his work, leaving a lasting legacy before his retirement in 1998.

On April 3, 1965, Adam married the love of his life, Carol Jean Boone, in San Diego, California. Their union was a testament to enduring love, spanning 58 beautiful years.

Adam was a man of many interests, finding solace in the great outdoors. He reveled in hunting, fishing, archery, fly tying, reloading, and every aspect of the natural world. His dedication to conservation led him to work as a consultant for Ducks Unlimited, an organization he held close to his heart.

Adam is survived by his loving wife, Carol Jean Schumacher of Canyon City, Oregon, his son, Adam J. Schumacher of Melba, Idaho, and his daughter, Denice Hoffman of Canyon City, Oregon. His memory lives on through his six cherished grandchildren: Dillan (Allison) Moore of La Grande, Oregon, Dalton (Ashley) Moore of Colville, Washington, Garrett (Sierra) Lovell of Baker City, Oregon, Courtney (Bret) Carter of Pendleton, Oregon, Jaxon Hoffman of Boise, Idaho, and Brandon (Savannah) Lovell of Prairie City, Oregon. Eleven great-grandchildren also survive him: Waylon, Raynee, Tyler, Boone, Calgaree, Colt, Brandon, Shepherd, KayMarie, Scout, and Bowie.

Adam was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Rueben Schumacher, and his son, Brandon Schumacher. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
