Nyssa Police Chief Ballou retires, Chief Wilson is sworn in

NYSSA — The police department in Nyssa recently experienced the turning of a page, as Chief Donald Ballou retired after 29 years with NPD. The Oregon Association of Chiefs of Police stated, “Chief Ballou began his career as a reserve officer in October 1997 and became a full-time police officer the following year. Over the decades, he steadily rose through the department’s ranks, and became the chief of police beginning in 2021. His career reflects a deep and enduring commitment to the Nyssa community, the officers he has served alongside, and the profession of law enforcement.”
On August 11th, the Nyssa Police Department swore in Steve Wilson as the new Chief of Police. Chief Wilson has served with the Nyssa department for nearly 6 years, and brings with him almost 18 years of law enforcement experience to his new position.
Nyssa Police Department officials wrote, “Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in a career built on dedication, honor, integrity, and service to a time-honored profession.”
The swearing-in ceremony was held during a Nyssa City Council meeting.
