Nyssa PD and surrounding agencies remember fallen Reserve Officer Johnson

NYSSA — It has been two years since fallen Nyssa Police Reserve Officer Joe Johnson lost his life in the line of duty. The Nyssa PD and several other agencies throughout the Treasure Valley are paying tribute to Reserve Officer Johnson this Tuesday, April 15th.
A Memorial Run is scheduled beginning at 9:00 a.m. and is sponsored by the Caldwell and Nyssa Police Departments. The run will begin east of the Snake River Bridge, and runners will travel west on Main Street, then north on N 3rd Street, and will end at Joseph “JJ” Johnson Memorial Park on Locust Avenue. Additional events will be held at the park throughout the day, as well.
A memorial softball fundraiser will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Johnson Park in support of two scholarships for 2027 Nyssa High School graduates—one for a student pursuing a career in the Criminal Justice field, and the other for a student going into the Mental Health field.
On April 15th, 2023, Officer Johnson responded to a call regarding a violent individual who was damaging property and threatening people near a Nyssa residence. The incident ultimately led to a pursuit through Nyssa, and the suspect shot Reserve Officer Johnson to death near the corner of 3rd and Locust.
Funds raised from the day will also support an annual scholarship to be awarded first in April 2026 for a Police Department in the Treasure Valley to obtain Clear Armor safety equipment including a front windshield, driver’s side door, and driver’s side window.
