Nyssa Fire Department improves response time with full-time firefighters

NYSSA — Firefighter response during the week has improved in Nyssa, according to officials. Personnel with the Nyssa Fire Department have announced that the department has received the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s 2025 Wildland Staffing Grant, which will enable the fire station to have three dedicated and paid firefighters available during weekdays. NFD mentioned in their announcement that already the department has noticed success through the program, stating, “As a direct result, the department’s response time from the station has improved significantly, with personnel responding in under a minute, as opposed to volunteers who must leave work to report to the station. The department’s…firefighting team includes Tyler Chamberlain, Andres Ramirez, and Bailey Frasch, who will return from deployment on July 18th. The department is grateful for the exceptional team in place, supported by 21 volunteer firefighters.”

The paid firefighters are at the station Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Nyssa Fire Department took to social media to thank the Office of Oregon State Fire Marshal for the award.
