PENDLETON – Winter looks to make one last push in the Northwest, with 5 to 11 inches of snow forecasted for the Blue Mountains and up to 20 inches predicted for the Cascades in Oregon and Washington.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Blue Mountains from 5 p.m. Tuesday to 11 p.m. Wednesday. Forecasters expect moderate to heavy snow with wind gusts up to 40 mph.

The Cascade Range in Oregon and Washington has a winter storm warning in effect from Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning; the warning is extended into Wednesday night for the northern Cascades in Washington. Snow accumulations of up to 20 inches in elevations above 2,500 feet are predicted, along with gusty winds.

Although the weather may cause headaches for drivers, it is welcome news for snowpack levels after several counties issued drought declarations recently.
