PENDLETON – The National Weather Service office in Pendleton has issued a hydrologic outlook for the Blue Mountains and Washington Cascades this weekend.

NWS says heavy rain and mountain snow through Friday evening will be followed by unusually warm temperatures during the weekend which will lead to high water levels on many streams and rivers.

As of Friday morning, the following rivers are forecasted to reach action stage by this evening. Action stage means possible high water that could cause minor impacts. Local governments or agencies may take actions.

  • Grande Ronde River at Troy
  • Umatilla River at Gibbon
  • Walla Walla River at Touchet
  • Klickitat River near Pitt
  • Naches River at Naches

The action stage is expected to continue throughout the weekend before receding early next week. Those rivers are not expected to reach flood stage.

NWS also noted that water temperatures have dropped into the lower 40’s, increasing the chances for hypothermia.
