JOHN DAY – The John Day local option police levy did not pass in last night’s special election, due to an insufficient number of ballots cast. Shortly after 8 p.m. Grant County Clerk Brenda Percy reported that only 38.9% of ballots were received, which fell short of the “50% + 1” requirement.

For the ballots that did come in, 284 John Day residents voted in favor of the local option levy to fund a city police department and 169 voted against it. We’ll keep you updated as to where the City of John Day will go from here regarding law enforcement protection.
