North Cayuse Fire grows slightly to 4,885 acres; 15% contained

MISSION – The North Cayuse Fire grew slightly but saw an increase in containment, according to a Thursday morning update.
The Northwest Incident Management Team took command of the firefight Thursday morning, reporting the blaze at 4,885 acres with 15% containment. Officials said 524 personnel across 21 crews are working the fire, which began July 4. Resource tallies include three helicopters, 12 engines, 14 dozers and eight water tenders.
Firefighters have been focused on strengthening existing holding features and bolstering control lines in areas showing heat. On Thursday they’ll continue to work on securing the perimeter and mopping up in Buckaroo and Iskuulpa Creek and Red Elk Canyon areas, utilizing aircraft for water delivery. Along the southern perimeter, firefighters are working to complete handline construction and increase the depth of mop-up.
Level One, Be Ready evacuation notices remain in effect for the immediate area. McKay Reservoir remains closed to support aerial operations, and a five-mile temporary flight restriction is still in effect around the fire.
