(Press Release from Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley)

“A small fixed wing aircraft crash was reported Saturday the [26th] at 1:36pm in the Wall Creek area of north west Grant County.

This accident was first reported by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center in response to an Emergency Locator Beacon (ELT) going off in that area.

Initial investigation has indicated that a small GM Cub aircraft piloted by Greg Miller with passenger Al Saber was attempting to take off of a rough location and struck a juniper tree.

Saber suffered some non-life-threatening injuries. Both parties were able to walk away from the crash, and wait at a nearby cabin for first responders.

Monument Fire and the Monument Ambulance were able to access the area and transport the patients to Blue Mt. Hospital Ambulance that staged in the area for transport to the Blue Mt. Hospital.

Grant County Search and Rescue Coordinator Dave Dobler responded, along with Deputies. Search and Rescue teams were activated but stood down once the Monument Volunteers were able to access the location. Incidents like this are an example of how valuable our volunteer First Responders are in this County, taking time from their day to provide a quick response to critical calls in their area.”
