WALLA WALLA – Gusty winds and changing conditions prompted officials to issue a Level 3 “go now” evacuation order Monday for residents near Van Hollenbeke and C.M. Rice roads as a rapidly spreading wildfire burned in northern Walla Walla County.

Officials said high winds led to rapid growth of the blaze, which was burning in areas that were difficult to access.

Evacuation orders were lifted early Tuesday. Walla Walla North County Fire District said no structures were lost and no injuries were reported. A crew remained on the scene overnight to prevent the fire from flaring up.

“We are thankful for the support provided by our neighboring districts throughout Walla Walla County at the Van Hollenbeke Fire today,” the fire district said in a statement. “We appreciate the tireless efforts of our volunteer responders.”
