No loss of life; minor injuries reported in structure fire

CANYON CITY – Multiple agencies responded to a structure fire on Friday near Canyon City. Information from the Grant County Communications Center indicates that on Friday, March 18th at approximately 2:49 p.m., Canyon City Fire and the John Day Rural Fire Departments responded to 62042 Dugout Lane in Marysville to the report of a structure fire. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office and John Day Ambulance also responded, with support provided by the Prairie City and Mt. Vernon Fire Departments.
Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley said there was no loss of life, and minor injuries to some firefighters were reported. He noted that the fire appears to have started in the area of the chimney. We’ll post updates to this page if local relief efforts are put into place for the resident(s) affected.
