No injuries reported during box truck fire near Elgin

ELGIN – Just after 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, Oregon State Police and other agencies responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Highway 82 near milepost 25, roughly five miles east of Elgin. When the responding trooper arrived, the fire was largely out, and the remains of the white box truck were still smoldering.

The owner of the truck told the trooper that he believed the fire was started by the vehicles brakes. How specifically the brakes sparked the fire was not described. The wreckage was removed later that day by Fenn’s Towing and Repair, while ODOT crews directed traffic.

Thankfully no injuries were reported and, according to a recent OSP press log, no enforcement action was taken at the time.
