BAKER CITY – Baker City Fire and Rescue responded to a structure fire at the intersection of 5th and Grace in Baker City this week. According to the department the fire was in a home and is believed to have been caused by a chimney fire. There were no injuries reported.
On the departments Facebook page was the following information, “Baker City Firefighters battled a stubborn structure fire. Freezing conditions stretched the crews thin as breathing apparatus began freezing during the hours long fight. A complete overhaul is unsafe during night hours as partial collapse and ice make some areas inaccessible for fire crews. There may still be steam visible from the structure, so please be prudent if you are in the area. If any flames or black smoke is seen, please call 911.
We would again like to thank Baker Rural Fire Protection District for their response as well as our law enforcement, public works, and dispatch partners. We wouldn’t be able to do it without you!”
