KIMBERLY – North Fork John Day Watershed Restoration Project Manager Alex Rice was on KJDY’s Coffee Time recently. He informed listeners of some stream restoration work on the Rudio Creek system, near the confluence of the North Fork John Day river with the main stem close to Kimberly:
“We were able to secure some funding and we’re actually going to go out and…any landowner on that stream, or Gilmore Creek—which is a tributary of Rudio Creek—any landowner who owns property on that stream can participate. We will, totally free of the landowner, perform assessments and create plans.
For each individual landowner, they’ll get a property plan and then we’ll have sort of a master plan for that entire system.”
Rice said the system provides cold water input into the river, which is important for steelhead. For further information about the Rudio Creek assessment, or about the North Fork John Day Watershed Council, call their office at (541) 421-3018.
