BAKER COUNTY – An update on a crash that closed OR7 outside of Baker City for a short time late last week. According to reports from Oregon State Police in Baker County, a serious injury crash occurred near mile post 45 on OR7 outside of Baker City mid afternoon on Friday, March 5, 2021.
Vehicle-1, a 1998 Subary Legacy was traveling northbound when the driver negotiated a corner near Old Auburn road and for an unknow reasons left the lane of travel multiple times, swerving back and forth between the two lanes of travel.
Vehicle 2, a Ram 2500 pickup that was pulling a gooseneck stock trailer, saw vehicle-1 driving erratically coming at them, slowed down and moved as far to the right as they could. Vehicle-1, driven by 40-year-old Jesse Manuel Galvan of Newberg, Oregon ultimately impacted the front of vehicle-2 as it slid broadside in the opposite lane of travel impacting on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
Galvan was extricated from the vehicle by EMS and was flown by Lifeflight helicopter from the scene with serious injuries. The occupants of vehicle-2 were uninjured.
Oregon State Police was assisted on scene by the Baker County Sheriff’s Department, Baker City Fire, Baker County Rural EMG and ODOT.
All lanes of travel were blocked for a period of time for the crash investigation and recovery of the vehicles involved. Speed and impairment are being investigated as contributing factors in the crash.
