HARNEY COUNTY(Released by Burns Interagency Fire Zone)-Update: As expected, both the Solomon and Sagehen fires were active throughout the night. Some fronts are holding this morning with easterly winds, but those are forecasted to flip to westerly later today. Many resources (engines, water tenders, dozers, hand crews, smoke jumpers, etc.) are ordered, arriving, en route, or on scene…and aircraft are anxiously waiting for improved air conditions to be cleared to fly.
The Sagehen fire (2,000+ acres now) will be visible from town – a smoke column during the day and glowing fire at night. Harney County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management will coordinate with BIFZ about any evacuation precautions or needs, and notify land and homeowners.
Holdover fires from last night’s lightning are very possible today. Keep an eye out! To report a wildfire, call (541) 573-1000…we’ll ask you about the location, what the smoke column looks like, etc.
When WE know you, YOU’LL know more. Information will be shared on this page as fast as possible. With questions, call (541) 573-4519.
