LA GRANDE – Justin Hernandez, of the Union County Sheriff’s Department is our new School Resource Deputy. He is replacing Cody Bowen, who is the newly elected Union County Sheriff. Justin will be collaborating with Tony Humphries, also an LGSD School Resource Deputy.
Hernandez received his bachelor’s degree in 2015 after playing collegiate football for Idaho Vandals and the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers. While finishing his degree he worked for the Union County Correctional Facility as a Reserve Deputy and, upon graduating, worked full time for the facility. Justin was shortly promoted to patrol where he worked for 2.5 years. In 2019, he became an undercover narcotics detective for the Union County Sheriff’s Office. He worked as a detective with the Drug Task Force until he accepted the LGSD School Resource Deputy position. Justin is a member of the Northeast Oregon Regional SWAT team where he currently serves as an Assistant Team Leader.
Brianne Hernandez, Justin’s wife of four years works for the Department of Human Services. They have a five-year-old son, Kingston, who is in kindergarten. Justin’s favorite thing to do is camp with his family. He also enjoys archery-hunting, steelhead/salmon fishing, exercising, and time with family and friends.
Justin’s goal for his first year at LGSD is to develop effective working relationships with members of the school district, school board, faculty, staff, and community partners such as the Juvenile Department, Department of Human Services, and Center for Human Development. He also hopes to gain the trust of the students and the community he will be serving.
