WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has issued revised master plans for the Little Goose and Lower Monumental dams. The plans had not been updated for more than 50 years and were reworked due to changes in policy and management strategies.
Comments were invited from the general public; tribes; and local, state, and federal agencies. The plans encompass recreational, natural and cultural resource management. USACE states that the plans apply only to the land, not the waters. Issues such as dam operations including fish passage and flood risk management are not a part of the plans.
The Little Goose plan pertains to the land surrounding Lake Bryan behind the dam. The Lower Monument plan spells out the plan for lands surrounding Lake West behind that dam. Both plans can be read in full on the USACE Walla Walla Division website.
