RICHLAND – (Information from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office) It’s the perfect time of year to hit the water. Be you boating or just floating, a life jacket should always be on hand if not on you, however. Life Jackets are, of course, mandatory by law for those under 12 years old when onboard any moving watercraft. For those visiting the Richland area and Hewitt Park, life jackets are now much more accessible thanks to the new Life Jacket Loaner Station. The new kiosk offers life jackets in assorted sizes that can be borrowed for daily recreation completely free. Kiosk users are simply asked to return their jackets before they head home.
The new loaner station was provided in part by the Oregon State Marine Board, Nautical Safety Foundation and Baker County Parks. Featured above during the ribbon cutting ceremony are Baker County Sheriff Travis Ash, Deputy Wayne Paxton, along with members of the Oregon State Marine Board.
