LA GRANDE – The ones that want to rid unwanted or expired prescription drugs don’t have to wait for the National Drug Take Back Day. Several new kiosks in Union County have been added. Not only the La Grande Police Department and Grande Ronde Hospital has drop off locations, but Wal-Mart has joined in, keeping citizens safe from unwanted prescription drugs. Also, Red Cross Drug in La Grande and Rite Aid have made it convenient for disposal.
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.
