LA GRANDE – La Grande Public Works Department is half-way through their installation of installing new water meters.  The replacements are meters that are at least 20-years old.  According to the Public Works Department, 5,000 meters are being installed around town that will include radio signals, that was installed a few years ago, which will measure water usage.

The meter will send a message to the city indicating how much water was used.  Also, the new meters will indicate if there are leaks or pipe breakage to prevent damage.  This first phase of the project should be completed by the end of the year.  Phase two will include all 1.5”,2” and larger industrial meters.
