ISLAND CITY, OR – A new Regional Food Bank is nearly completed in Island City, formally the old PGG building on McAlister Road. The new building currently under construction, is six times the size of the old building from 1,100 to 8,500 square feet and will make way for larger coolers and freezers which will increase the variety and amount of food that can be accepted, stored, and distributed.
Donations from citizens and businesses in Union, Baker, Wallowa, and Grant Counties have brought in $150,000 and grants have made it possible to open this new facility. According to Community Connections in La Grande, the move-in will be around the end of July, with a grand opening sometime the first part of August.
