MILTON-FREEWATER – The Milton-Freewater Rural Fire Department has taken delivery of a new firefighting vehicle from Bozeman-based truck manufacturer, Acela Truck.
The new truck will be used to work on brush fires. It is also equipped with a high-water kit, making the vehicle capable of getting people to safety faster during floods. According to Acela, while flash flood waters may only be three to five feet deep, most emergency vehicles do not have engine air intakes mounted above those levels. Also, the computer control module for many fire vehicles is located under the apparatus. That is not the case for vehicles with the high-water kit.
The new multi-purpose firefighting vehicle also gives firefighters the ability to safely carry 2,500 gallons of water in an off-road situation. The fire department has already given the new vehicle a name – Super Soaker.
