LA GRANDE – The La Grande Police recently welcomed a new member into its ranks and promoted two of its veterans up the ranks. On September 21, ceremonies were held for newly sworn-in officer Donovan Gonzales (left) and for sergeants Scott Norton (Middle) and Ryan Herbel (Right), both of whom were promoted to the rank of Patrol Sergeant. The events were overseen by Chief Gary Bell.

For those unfamiliar with Officer Gonzales, the LGPD gave the following short bio in a social media post highlighting the ceremony:

“Ofc. Gonzales was a collegiate athlete, playing as a first baseman for the Lassen Community College and the Eastern Oregon University Baseball teams. Prior to starting his career with the LGPD, Ofc. Gonzales also worked as a Reserve Corrections Deputy for the Union County Sheriff’s Office and came to us highly recommended.  He is a calm and friendly person with a great work ethic.  Please say hello to him if you see him out and about!”

Kind words were also given for the two Sergeants:

“This public ceremony symbolized a renewed commitment and dedication that will be carried forward in Sgt. Norton’s and Sgt. Herbel’s new assignment.  Congratulations Sgt. Scott Norton and Sgt. Ryan Herbel on your well-deserved promotions!”

Congratulations and good luck to all officers!
