BAKER COUNTY – (Release from Crossroads Carnegie Art Center) The Baker County Cultural Coalition, part of the Oregon Cultural Trust, is pleased to announce the creation of a new grant program to provide greater access to all Baker County Citizens to the arts.  Thanks to the Oregon Community Foundation who in late 2022 gifted each County and Federally Recognized Tribal Coalition a gift of $5000. This gift was for each Coalition to use as they wanted to increase access to the arts in their community.

The Baker County Cultural Coalition after much discussion, has chosen to set up a new Baker County Cultural Coalition Access Grant.

Who can apply: Non-Profits, Social Service Agencies, Community Based Organizations, Governmental Agencies and Artisans or Guilds.

Grant Amount: $500

Goal:  To increase access to arts, culture, heritage, and humanities organizations in Baker County for people facing barriers in participations in cultural events and venues.

Who is served:  people unable to afford admission and tickets, physical or mental disabilities, barriers with language or literacy, lack of transportation, and/or feelings marginalized due to age, race, national origin, gender/ and or gender orientation.

Grant Deadline:  August 15th and March 15th. Grant application is on the Baker County Website at https://www.bakercounty.org/cultural_plan/bccc.html

“I am so appreciative of the work put in by the Baker County Cultural Coalition to work through the details of this new program. The BCCC Traditional Grant Program funded by the Oregon Cultural Trust is awarded  twice a year focusing on support new or continuing small cultural events, support for new projects, upgrades to exhibits or programs.  The goal of this new fund is to have a direct focus on access for all citizens.

Examples:

A museum might use funds to have a free family day specifically marketing to young families and provide games for youth.  A cultural organization may choose to use the funds to set up their own free or reduced ticket program to increase participation, a social service provider can apply to have tickets for their clients or to provide transportation for clients to attend free cultural events.  We will even consider applications from cultural institutions to increase access with grants to improve ADA capital improvements, to have communication translated into Spanish. or to provide American Sign Language translation at events.  The new application has a FAQ Sheet attached to answer common questions.” States Ginger Savage, Chair of the Baker County Cultural Coalition.

Organizations can apply for a traditional BCCC Grant and an Access Grant in one calendar year. Baker County Cultural Coalition will evaluate the success of the program and if successful will work to find additional resources to help continue the program.  For questions contact Ginger Savage, at Crossroads at 541-523-5369.
