New $45K 4-H arena completed at Benton County Fairgrounds

KENNEWICK — The Benton Franklin Fair Association has completed construction on a new 4-H arena at the Benton County Fairgrounds, replacing an aging wooden structure that served local equestrians for decades.
The nearly $45,000 project was funded in part by a $12,500 grant from the Wildhorse Foundation, alongside funding from the Benton Franklin Fair Association. The original arena, built decades ago by the Benton Franklin Mounted Sheriff’s Posse, had reached the end of its useful life, according to officials.
Over several days last month, fair and rodeo volunteers demolished the old structure, removed materials, and rebuilt the arena from the ground up. The project included installing new Noble Panels, as well as leveling and sifting the arena footing. Big D’s Construction provided equipment and technical expertise for the build.
The new arena is designed to offer a safer, more durable space for 4-H horse members, horse clubs, clinics, barrel races, and other community events throughout the year.
“The Benton Franklin Fair exists to create opportunities for youth and strengthen our community,” Benton Franklin Fair Association Executive Director Lori Lancaster said in a statement. “We’re incredibly grateful to the Wildhorse Foundation for helping make this project possible.”
Lancaster added that the combination of grant support and volunteer labor has created a lasting resource for local youth.
The Benton Franklin Fair Association, a nonprofit organization, continues to invest in facility upgrades at the fairgrounds to support youth, agriculture, and regional community events.
