National Indigenous Peoples Day is coming

MISSION – Indigenous People’s Day on Monday, Oct. 13 will be a holiday for many on the Umatilla Indian Reservation.

In recognition of Indigenous Peoples Day, the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation government will close its Nixyaawii Governance Center and other Tribal offices, CTUIR announced yesterday (Monday).

Kayak Public Transit is also cancelling its scheduled runs. Service will resume as normal on Oct. 14.

Emergency services like the Umatilla Tribal Police Department and Umatilla Tribal Fire Department will provide services around the clock as always, according to CTUIR.

Indigenous Peoples Day is celebrated in many cities and states celebrating and honoring Native Americans and commemorating their histories and cultures.
