BENTON COUNTY, WA – BNSF Railway workers reported seeing a naked man walking on the railroad tracks near McNary Dam Monday afternoon. Aware that it was growing dark and temperatures were dropping, a search was mounted by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office
Drones were deployed, deputies searched on foot and ATVs, and also got help from LifeFlight, which searched by air. He was not found and no additional information came in from the public regarding the man. The search was called off until early Tuesday morning when another tip was received.
A citizen reported seeing a naked man on Owens Road near State Route 397 at 5:30 a.m. As deputies began to respond BCSO received a call from another citizen who reported they had picked up the man and were taking him to Trios Health in Kennewick.
Deputies contacted the man (whose name is not released) at Trios. He was in stable condition with moderate to severe frostbite to both feet, according to a BCSO Facebook post.
Investigators report that the man only provided limited information about what occurred. Investigating further, the discovered he was out the night before and allegedly under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. His walk began at the Circle K in the city of Umatilla Monday afternoon. He then reportedly took his clothes off near McNary Dam and walked through farm fields until he made it to Owens Road. The sheriff’s office contacted his family and says the man is expected to make a full recovery.
