WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla City Council meets tonight (Wednesday) at 6:30 p.m. The council will consider a resolution that supports and authorizes applying for and accepting grant funding for the Myra Road extension. The city seeks to extend Myra Road from State Route 125 south to Taumarson Road. The extension would provide improved public safety response times, reduce traffic congestion around Plaza Way and provide citizens alternate commute routes.
Extending the road is estimated to cost $10 million. The project was identified and adopted into Walla Walla County’s long-term arterial road plan in October 2005 and subsequently included into the city of Walla Walla’s transportation and capital facilities plan. In 2018, the city of Walla Walla adopted a similar resolution to the one being considered tonight, however that resolution was for a specific grant, whereas this resolution is non-specific.
Also on the agenda, the council will consider a proposed ordinance placing a moratorium on the acceptance, processing, or approval of applications for development authorizations and other permits for change of use of manufactured home parks. The proposed ordinance additionally establishes a work plan that instructs city staff to complete such studies, applications, proposals, and other materials to process permanent amendments to city development regulations by December 31, 2022, and to bring back proposed permanent amendments to the city development regulations by March 23, 2023.
City staff recommends council hold a public hearing on the matter tonight and vote on the proposed moratorium ordinance.
