PENDLETON – Umatilla County Commissioner George Murdock is keeping an uneasy eye on Salem as preparations for the 2022 session on Feb. 1 get underway. His hope is that lawmakers remember what the even-numbered sessions are supposed to accomplish.
“The short session is there to address budget issues, to tweak legislation that had errors in it,” he said. “They’re not there to frame a new legislative agenda.”
He said the one thing that will need to be addressed is how to use the influx of federal dollars.
“Oregon is in as good a financial state right now as it’s ever been,” he said. “The flow of federal money will someday come home to roost, somebody’s going to have to pay that. But right now, the money is coming and I think they’ll be addressing how best to use it.”
